× Coronavirus Update: Saturday 11th July 2020 We regret to inform you that we are not currently in a position to re-open the railway to customers, however, we currently plan to re-open from Saturday 5th September.

Our volunteers are starting to return to the railway to carry out maintenance to the track, rolling stock and locomotives. From July 12th we will start testing our locomotives, training our newest volunteers and carrying out familiarisation sessions for all our members. We have made this decision alongside Van Hage Garden Centre to ensure the safety within their premises of our volunteer members and our customers.

We hope you understand our position and we would like to thank our customers for their continued patience and understanding during this time.

We look forward to welcoming you back in September. We will provide an update to you in late August on our progress on re-opening the railway.

Can you volunteer?

Established for over 40 years, we are a 71/4” Gauge independent Miniature Railway located in the Hertfordshire countryside. Located within the grounds of Van Hage Garden Centre in Great Amwell (near Ware, Hertfordshire, SG12 9RP), we are open to the public every weekend for complete family enjoyment.

During the school holidays we operate a special service on limited days. All our times and fares can be found here on our Calendar.

About Us

Our operation is run entirely by volunteer-based enthusiasts who give up their free time to run and maintain the railway. After defraying the cost of running the railway, we make regular donations to nominated charities and local organisations.

Both our independent railway and the Van Hage Garden Centre is a popular visitor destination for children and parents alike, where there are a variety of activities available. For more information on Van Hage’s facilities, please visit their website at http://www.vanhage.co.uk/garden-centres/great-amwell.
